Wow! This piece is very very incredible! Nice work
Thanks so much!
Beautiful painting, Jen! I really like it. How did you get the pretty antique effect in the background?
Thank you Melissa! The antique affect is simply some light layering of Burnt Umber, and Transparent Red Oxide, and I used a little bit of Pthalo Blue to cut the browns, with the medium I use. There is a spattering technique that you can apply when the thin paint and medium are drying, but not yet dry, which allows it to create a nice gritty texture.
You can use a clean hogs hair brush with just medium on it to spray/spatter the areas which you’d like to add texture to.
The medium I use is the following mixture;
5 Parts Turpentine
1 Part Damar Varnish
1 Part Stand Oil
I’ll also use Linseed Oil during the later part of the painting process.
Will we see you at the Guild this year? If you will be I can show you there during the painting workshop.
Hope that helps!
Wow …that’s really neat! It gives such a great effect too! Thanks so much for the instructions. Someday it’d be great to see how you do it in person!
Even though I will not be attending the Guild this year, I still greatly enjoy the memories from last year and recall things that I’ve learned from painting with you. (That was so fun!) I’ll miss seeing you. Maybe next year will work out!
