Gone Fishin’ – Painting Dragonflies, Creative Corner

Last night I spent the evening out on the lake.

No computer. No iphone. No Facebook. No email.

Just my husband, me, a canoe, fishing pole and the harmonious chatter of geese and bull frogs.

It was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

As we fished I watched these fantastic little dragonflies flitting about. One especially had a fetish with my husband’s head. :) They all exhibited different colors and sizes. Some dull, some brilliant and shiny. They were fabulous. Thus, inspiring today’s Creative Corner.

I would encourage you this weekend (or soon) to take your kids out fishing! Find a local little bait shop, get your gear, and head out to a lake! Bring their pencils and sketchbooks, and DON’T FORGET your CAMERA! I’ve mentioned before how to take better photos of your kids! Take all kinds of pics of them fishing, sketching, jumping in mud…whatever! Have a good time.

When you’re home talk about the different things they observed.

If you get some pics of dragonflies draw and paint some of the ones you saw!

If you can’t make it out to fish right away, get online and pull up some fun dragonfly pics. Let your kids pick some out with you! Pull out the paints and canvas and enjoy a couple hours of creativity.

Start by sketching out the dragonfly lightly in pencil,

then paint with bright, brilliant color!

Post some pics of your time on our facebook page! It’s times like these that make great inspiration for paintings!
